Alexandre Bassi is an independent French type designer. He holds a master’s degree in typography from the École de Communication Visuelle in Paris and has conducted research at the Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy, France. His work revolves around three axes: type design, research and teaching.
His practice is expressed through commissions, typeface development for foundries and independent designers, and self-initiated projects. He is a member of the multidisciplinary Mayan Encoding Project, associated with UC Berkeley, USA, which aims to shape and facilitate the encoding of the Mayan writing system within the Unicode standard. He also shares his knowledge by teaching typography and type design through workshops.
